"I think psychotherapy is the reason I'm still alive today," admits Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons.
In celebration of World Mental Health Day, Imagine Dragons have released the music video for the song 'I Don't Like Myself' from their album 'Mercury – Acts 1 & 2'.
Along with the release of the music video, Imagine Dragons have partnered with Crisis Text Line and are encouraging their fans to support the organization and its work through fundraisers posted on the band's social media pages.
Crisis Text Line is a nonprofit organization that provides free, high-quality text-based mental health support and crisis intervention throughout the United States and Puerto Rico, in English and Spanish. The organization's services are available 24 hours a day, every day.
Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons stated: “I wrote this song at a really bad time for me. I've struggled enough with self-love over the years. I was in a deep depression and turned to music for refuge."
"Since then I have spent many years in psychotherapy working on self-love. I believe psychotherapy is the reason I am still alive today. If the question of whether or not you should do psychotherapy ever arises. The answer is always yes. Stay alive," he emphasized.
"We are grateful to join forces with Imagine Dragons to raise awareness about the growing mental health crisis," said Dena Trujillo, CEO of Crisis Text Line.
"Our research shows that music is the most common coping mechanism reported by young people in emotional distress. "I Don't Like Myself will bring comfort to many as it expresses the hope and empathy we all need at different times in our lives," he added.
The epic song 'I Don't Like Myself' is included on Imagine Dragons' epic album 'Mercury – Acts 1 & 2' which was released on July 1st and is the band's boldest artistic statement of their career to date.
The double album, produced by Rick Rubin, features 32 songs, including the hit singles 'Enemy' and 'Sharks'. "Mercury – Acts 1 & 2" has amassed an impressive 11.1 billion streams to date.
