"The first seeds of this short film were planted ten years ago," Taylor Swift said.
Taylor Swift released her biggest directorial project to date last year, a moving 14-minute music video for "All Too Well" starring Sadie Sink and Dylan O'Brien, and now she's taking fans behind the scenes of the venture.
The pop star shared several behind-the-scenes minutes with Sadie Sink and Dylan O'Brien, who captured on screen the dysfunctional age-gap relationship she describes in "All Too Well (10 Minute Version)," the which hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 when it was released in November 2021 as a track on the album 'Red (Taylor's Version)'.
In many of the clips, Taylor Swift describes to the two actors in detail how they should be feeling at any given moment, sometimes switching positions with them and tracking their movements for them.
“The first seeds of this short film were planted ten years ago and I will never forget the behind-the-scenes moments of the shoot. I owe everything to Sadie Sink and Dylan O'Brien, my incredible cinematographer Rina Yang and my producer Saul Germaine ," the singer wrote in an Instagram post.
Taylor Swift not only closely directs the video's two leads, but also gives precise instructions to the many extras who appear in the background.
In one of the short's most meticulously choreographed scenes for 'All Too Well (10 Minute Version)' he instructs exactly when the camera should zoom in and out, exactly when an actor should place a birthday cake in front of Sadie Sink and exactly when the star of "Stranger Things" should blow out the candles.
“I also want to thank our wonderful supporting cast and crew for bringing this story to life so naturally. I loved every second of it and will remember it forever. All. Too. Well. The behind-the-scenes footage of the short film for 'All Too Well' is out!” he added
Both the song "All Too Well" and the short film about the song have become two of Taylor Swift's most acclaimed works.
"All Too Well: The Short Film" won three awards at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, including Video of the Year and is nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Music Video.
Also, "All Too Well (10 Minute Version)" received a nomination for Song of the Year at the 2023 Grammy Awards.
