Only Rihanna could mark a major milestone on streaming platforms while it's been more than seven years since her last album was released.
Rihanna is now the first female artist with 10 songs to surpass 1 billion streams on Spotify, an impressive record despite not having released an album since 2016's 'Anti'.
The music star took to Instagram to mark the occasion, referencing both the new record and the fact she is the youngest self-made female billionaire in the US, using the phrase: "Bad Gal Billi."
"No new album," Rihanna noted, adding a Barbados flag in honor of her home country.
Rihanna made a record-breaking comeback last fall with two songs for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack, the Oscar- and Golden Globe-nominated "Lift Me Up" and "Born Again."
February followed Rihanna's big comeback and her much-anticipated appearance at the 2023 Super Bowl, where she revealed that she is pregnant with her second child.
In an interview that month, Rihanna spoke of the pressure she felt to release new music with her "most cohesive album," Anti, as a benchmark for her next record.
Rihanna added that she is aiming to release her ninth album during 2023.
“I want it to be released this year. I mean, honestly, it would be ridiculous if it doesn't come out this year. But I just want to have fun," he said
“I just want to make music and make videos. And I need the right background music with the videos. I can't just go and shoot a video so I can talk," he continued.
Rihanna became America's youngest self-made female billionaire in 2022. A year later, her net worth was estimated to have surpassed $1.4 billion, according to Investopedia.
Much of Rihanna's fortune is attributed to her hugely successful cosmetics company, Fenty Beauty, which she co-owns with French luxury retailer LVMH, as well as the lingerie brand Savage x Fenty.
