Olivia Rodrigo: "I do not think I am a great songwriter"

Olivia Rodrigo wants to keep up the momentum after the release of her first album, "Sour", which earned her seven nominations for the 2022 Grammy Awards.

The 18-year-old artist spoke with the opening act of her "Sour Tour" tour, Gracie Abrams, for "Interview" magazine and analyzed her plans for her next album.

"I try to give more priority to production. I listen to music as if it were spoken-word poetry. "I'm a songwriter with an emphasis on lyrics, so it was a learning process to focus on other things," he described.

"The collaboration really broadens my horizons in other important things about music," he said.

Olivia Rodrigo declined to say whether the collaborations she was referring to included other artists, but said with disarming honesty: "I really do not think I am a great songwriter."

"I'm just a very productive songwriter and I write so much that some of them happen to be good. "And statistically, some of what I write will be good," he continued.

He also revealed that the first time he remembers saying he wanted to be a songwriter was when he heard Lorde's first album, "Pure Heroine" (2013).

Regarding the "Sour Tour" tour, which will start in April, Olivia Rodrigo stressed that she feels impatient for several things, but she confessed her anxiety about appearing in front of sold-out crowds.

"I am very nervous. I have never done anything like this before ", she admitted, noting that she is more worried about the places where she will sleep during her tour.

Olivia Rodrigo added that she intends to sleep only on her tour bus and nowhere else, because "I am the most paranoid person in the world."

"I get scared when I stay in hotels. I'm not microbiophobic, but every time I walk into a hotel I'm worried that I'll catch some weird disease or something. "I have the strangest paranoia," he added.
