Nicki Minaj is reportedly preparing her own documentary.
Nicki Minaj refused to give permission for the use of her music to the creators of the new Netflix documentary about the women of hip-hop.
Last week, Netflix released a trailer for its upcoming docu-series Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop, featuring Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Saweetie, Coi Leray and Latto, among others.
However, Nicki Minaj's absence caused a sensation and her fans took to Twitter to express their reactions.
However, Shawn Allen, who is a co-producer of the documentary, claimed that Nicki Minaj did not give 'Ladies First' permission to use her music or footage from the music videos she has released.
"Nicki didn't give us permission for her music and videos," Allen responded to a fan who was outraged by the rapper's absence from the documentary.
Shawn Allen confirmed to another Twitter user that production of the documentary was planned to include Nicki Minaj in "Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop," but added that "it didn't make sense because he didn't give us any permission ».
He also claimed that this was the same reason why Missy Elliott, who this year will become the first female rapper to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, was not included in the documentary.
Elsewhere, Shawn Allen claimed that Nicki Minaj refused to license her music because she is preparing her own documentary.
"I think Nicki is working on her own documentary ... I don't understand why Missy didn't agree," he said, before clarifying that Netflix bought the four-episode documentary but did not produce it.
While it has yet to be confirmed if Nicki Minaj plans to release her own documentary, the rapper is currently putting the finishing touches on her highly anticipated new album 'Pink Friday 2'.
Recently, Nicki Minaj confirmed that 'Pink Friday 2' is expected to be released on November 17th.
The first album 'Pink Friday', released in 2010, debuted at No. 1 in the United States and contains hits such as 'Super Bass', 'Moment For Life', 'Your Love', 'Right Thru Me' and more.
The documentary "Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop" will premiere on Netflix on August 9.
