"I am very grateful for the magic of music and cinema."
Lady Gaga thanked the Academy for her fourth career Oscar nomination.
The song "Hold My Hand" he co-wrote with BloodPop for the movie "Top Gun: Maverick" is up for Best Original Song at the 2023 Academy Awards, it was announced this week.
"Thank you so much to the Academy for nominating my song 'Hold My Hand' for an Oscar this year!" Lady Gaga wrote in a post on social networks.
“Making this song for the movie 'Top Gun: Maverick' was a profound and powerful experience that I will never forget. I am so grateful for the magic of music and film. I love you my co-creator BloodPop,” he continued.
"I'm on set right now, sending a lot of love to the little monsters!", he added, without specifying whether he is filming "Joker 2", in which he will star alongside Joaquin Phoenix, or if he is preparing a musical project.
This is Lady Gaga's third career nomination for Best Original Song.
In 2016, she received her nomination after collaborating with Diane Warren to write the song 'Til It Happens To You' for the documentary 'The Hunting Ground'.
In 2018, Lady Gaga collaborated with Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt to write "Shallow" for the remake of the film "A Star Is Born", which won the award for Best Song at the 2019 Oscars.
Lady Gaga was also nominated at that year's Academy Awards for Best Actress for her performance in A Star Is Born.
A day earlier, Lady Gaga was congratulated by her friend and collaborator Tony Bennett, with whom she joined forces on the jazz albums 'Cheek To Cheek' (2014) and 'Love For Sale' (2021).
"Congratulations to the amazingly talented Lady Gaga on her fourth Oscar nomination! Today, Lady Gaga makes history as the first artist to receive three nominations in the Best Original Song category at the Oscars. I'm so proud of you!” Tony Bennett tweeted.
However, it is not clear what the comment about Lady Gaga's record meant. Other artists, such as Randy Newman and Lionel Richie, have received three or more nominations in the Best Original Song category.
"Hold My Hand" is one of six nominations received by "Top Gun: Maverick" for the 2023 Academy Awards, including one for best picture.
The film fared better in the Oscar nominations than the original 1986 "Top Gun," which was nominated for four awards. It's unusual for a sequel to surpass the first film in Oscar nominations.
