Kylie Minogue feels the solidarity of her queer fans: 'They protect me'

Kylie Minogue talks about her loving relationship with her LGBTQ+ fans and her first contact with the queer community.

Kylie Minogue is proud of her LGBTQ+ fans.

The Australian singer, who has completed more than 40 years in the music industry, has gained a large following of queer fans over the years.

When asked by ET Canada why she thinks this is the case, Kylie Minogue said it's partly because of the sense of camaraderie that characterizes her music.

“I would say at that time in the '90s there were a lot of moments where I was just completely (shakes head)…. it was not pleasant," he recalled.

"And I feel like my gay audience kind of sympathized with me," he said.

"They were protecting me. I was just trying to dole out kindness and when they treat you a little unfairly, I think they're ready to bite,” he continued.

The LGBTQI+ community is always supportive of Kylie Minogue and the singer also tries to return the favor in the best possible way

In February, Kylie Minogue appeared at Sydney's World Pride event alongside her sister Dannii Minogue and says it was a moment she will never forget.

"It was quite an electrifying moment. I'm not going to lie. I was very nervous before the show," she admitted.

“My sister was there and we really wanted it to be amazing. And we hadn't done that before. And, you know, just the technical stuff – is the elevator going to work and is this going to happen? We were going to do the usual concert stuff,” he continued.

“But beyond that, it was a really special night for so many people and we were able to perform together. It was amazing," he said.

Looking back on her history with the queer community, Kylie Minogue revealed that she was first introduced to the space through a drag show themed around her.

"I was kind of already embraced when I heard there was a drag show for Kylie in Sydney in 1990. And that was about the first thing I heard about it, like that," she commented.

"Since then I've been to a few drag shows and believe me, I'm the least Kylie-like person in the room," said Kylie Minogue.
