The song of Mahmood and Blanco has caused a sensation internationally.
Mahmood and Blanco became the winners of the 72nd Sanremo Festival with their song "Brividi" and won the opportunity to represent Italy at this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Turin.
Before entering the Sanremo contest, all contestants are required to declare to the public broadcaster Rai whether they are willing to represent Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest in case they win.
Shortly after the festival ended, Mahmood and Blanco confirmed that they would be traveling to Turin. It is recalled that Italy has qualified directly for the final of Eurovision 2022 as the host country of the competition and winner of last year's event.
This will be Mahmood's second appearance at Eurovision, as he has already represented Italy with the song "Soldi" in 2019, taking second place in the Tel Aviv competition.
The song "Brividi" with which Mahmood and Blanco will eventually represent Italy at Eurovision 2022 has caused a sensation at the international level from the first moment of its presentation at the Sanremo Festival.
It broke the record for the Italian song with the most steams in the first 24 hours of its release on Spotify in Italy, while it went up to No. 5 of the Spotify world chart and won the No. 1 on all digital platforms in Italy.
"Brividi", released by Universal Music Italia, already has over 14.5 million streams on Spotify.
At the same time, Mahmood and Blanco's song has surpassed 20 million views on YouTube. The accompanying music video has been viewed more than 12 million times, while the appearance of the two artists at the Sanremo festival has been viewed 8 million times, which you can see here.
"When they announced our names, we did not believe the truth. "These days we are impressed by the warmth of the people," said Mahmood and Blanco at the press conference after his victory at the 2022 Sanremo Festival.
"We had not yet realized that we had won, we treated it all as a game from the beginning, so we looked at the stage puzzled, with an expressionless look," Mahmood revealed.
"Everyone in the song tells their own story, but the emotions are the same, because they concern us all. It was not something that had been studied in advance, we did not know who to turn to. "We just put what we felt in the song, everything came naturally," the two artists explained.
"The main theme is not love, the song is based more on the feeling of freedom to love. "The discomfort we want to overcome is that of not being able to express ourselves and be understood," they added.
The 66th Eurovision Song Contest will take place on May 10, 12 and 14 at the "PalaOlimpico" in Turin.
