Demi Lovato reveals the reasons why she turned to drug use.
The 28-year-old singer was featured on Diane Guerrero's podcast "Yeah No, I'm Not Okay" and commented on the misconception that "if you use drugs or have an eating disorder or injure yourself, then you want to die."
For Demi Lovato, drugs were a "catastrophic mechanism" for the problems she faced and sometimes an alternative to suicidal thoughts.
"In the same way he killed me, saved my life sometimes, because there were times when I was confronted with suicidal ideation," the singer explained about substance use.

"I turned to these coping mechanisms because I was really in so much pain that I did not want to die and I did not know what else to do," he said.
"And if I had moved on at that moment (and committed suicide) instead of turning to another destructive coping mechanism, I would not be here to tell my story," he continued.
Demi Lovato noted that, after the almost lethal dose of substances that put her life in serious danger in 2018, she has found "healthier" ways to deal with the problems in order not to resort to the same behaviors again.
The American pop star will talk about her history of substance abuse, the incident with the overdose and her recovery in the upcoming documentary "Dancing With The Devil" which will premiere on YouTube on March 23.
