BLACKPINK: The first female K-pop group at No. 1 UK


BLACKPINK became the first female K-pop group to reach No. 1 in the UK Albums Chart.

The South Korean band have topped the UK charts with their second album, 'Born Pink', which was released on Friday 16th September.

BLACKPINK previously reached No. 2 in the UK with their debut album, 2020's 'The Album'.

Martin Talbot, CEO of the UK's Official Charts Company, congratulated BLACKPINK in a statement.

"Topping any kind of chart is an achievement that will never be taken away, so for their new album 'Born Pink' to become the first official UK number one by a female K-pop group is a fantastic achievement. – and puts them in the record books forever!”, he said.

In 2019, BTS became the first Korean group to reach the No. 1 in the UK Albums Chart with 'Map of The Soul: Persona'. In 2020, their album 'Map Of The Soul: 7' achieved the same feat and also dominated the UK number one spot.

Along with the debut album "Born Pink", BLACKPINK's new single "Shut Down" entered the No. 24 in the UK charts. The album's first single, "Pink Venom" debuted at No. 22 in the UK when it was released in August.

BLACKPINK have a total of 8 UK Top 40 songs to their credit.

They scored their best performance with their cover of Lady Gaga's song 'Sour Candy' from the album 'Chromatica' (2020), which reached No. 17.

However, 'How You Like That' is the song that gave BLACKPINK their highest position on the UK singles chart, peaking at No. 20.

In addition to 'Born Pink' (No. 1) and 'The Album' (No. 2), BLACKPINK's 2019 EP 'Kill This Love' has also appeared on the UK album charts, reaching No. No. 40.
