The soundtrack of the film "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" about the life and career of Whitney Houston is released.
The album 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody (The Movie: Whitney New, Classic and Reimagined)' features 35 sensational songs, including a rare live performance of 'Don't Cry For Me', as well as a new and original reworking of song by multi-platinum artist and producer Sam Feldt.
The haunting song originally released by BeBe and CeCe Winans on their album 'Heaven' in 1988.
During the world tour of "The Bodyguard", Whitney Houston flew back to the US for the AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA) benefit concert and gave a performance that would eventually become iconic.
"'Don't Cry For Me', originally performed live by Whitney Houston, is truly an unexpected discovery," said Clive Davis.
“The lyrics blend wonderfully with Whitney's life story and her unique voice penetrates your heart with her message. A song you have to listen to after two minutes of the end credits!” he continued.
Houston first appeared in the mainstream with her first album, 'Whitney Houston' (1985). The album, which featured three No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 ("Saving All My Love for You," "How Will I Know" and "Greatest Love of All") spent 14 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 and sold more than 25 million copies worldwide.
Her second album, Whitney, followed in 1987. It included four No. 1 singles, including 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)', 'Didn't We Almost Have It All', 'So Emotional' and 'Where Do Broken Hearts Go'.
Both albums went diamond in the US ("Whitney Houston" 13x platinum and "Whitney" 10x platinum), with Houston becoming the first black artist with three diamond albums.
On February 10, 2023, Legacy Recordings, in partnership with The Estate of Whitney E. Houston, will release the iconic singer's first two albums on vinyl.
Pat Houston said of the song: "It's all a matter of time and I'm beyond thrilled that this amazing song is out at this time."
“Whitney has always been the best representative of herself and this song 'Don't Cry For Me' is a testament to her life and connection to all her fans. She delivers that signature voice with a heartfelt message and the orchestration complements everything the Whitney team was hoping for!” he added.
The movie "I Wanna Dance With Somebody", with Naomi Ackie in the role of Whitney Houston, will be released in Greek cinemas on December 29.
