Sting asserts that Sean 'Diddy' Combs' allegations do not affect Every Breath You Take

Sting has commented on the allegations surrounding Sean 'Diddy' Combs.

Combs famously sampled The Police's 1983 hit, *Every Breath You Take*, in his 1997 track *I'll Be Missing You*. When asked if the recent allegations against Combs had affected his feelings toward the song, Sting responded, "No. I don’t know what went on (with Diddy), but it doesn’t taint the song at all for me," he told the *LA Times*. "It’s still my song."

The two had previously performed *I’ll Be Missing You* together at the 1997 MTV Music Awards.

Sting, 73, also discussed other artists who have sampled his music. Last year, Pink and Marshmello released *Dreaming*, which draws from Sting’s song *Fields of Gold*.

"I don’t know why my tracks resonate with younger musicians," he noted, "but when someone wants to sample or reinterpret them, I never object. I always learn something new about the song that I hadn’t realized before. Plus, I get paid, so why not? It keeps the music alive. Songs are like living organisms—you have to keep breathing life into them or pair them with new collaborators."

Meanwhile, Combs, 55, has been in jail since September, awaiting trial on charges of alleged sex trafficking and abuse. He was denied $50 million (£38.6 million) bail and will remain in custody until his trial next year.
