Selena Gomez wants to release music that makes people happy.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, which features her on its cover alongside other Hollywood star peers, Selena Gomez shared new details about the direction of her upcoming album, saying she's opted for a "very pop" sound.
“The music I'm making right now is about the real things I'm going through. It's really strong, strong, very pop," the pop star explained about her new record.
"The theme in general is freedom - freedom from relationships, freedom from darkness," he added.
Selena Gomez also mentioned that while she wants to create upbeat songs for her fans to enjoy, she would much rather make a different kind of music instead.
"If it were up to me, I'd probably write ballads all my life, but I want to make music that makes people smile," he noted at another point in the interview.
Selena Gomez also spoke to Vanity Fair about the freedom she's felt since releasing her Apple TV+ documentary My Mind & Me, which offers an unrelenting look at her struggles with mental health.
"I started to notice that people were coming up to me and not saying, 'Oh, I want a picture with you.' They were more like, "Hey, I appreciated that point you made that." Then I ended up having a five-minute conversation with someone about their life," he described.
“That happened more and more and I started to feel good because I wasn't just a prop for people. I started thinking, 'This is paying off,' because that's what I want at the end of the day," he continued.
"I'd rather be remembered for my heart than anything else," Selena Gomez said.
