Sam Smith describes how his James Bond song was born

Sam Smith took part in the celebrations of 60 years of James Bond films and revealed how his song 'Writing's On The Wall' for the 2015 film 'Spectre' was born.

In a series of posts on his Instagram stories, Sam Smith revealed that he began working on the song with producer and longtime collaborator Jimmy Napes while recording his early 2013 hit "Lay Me Down."

"Jimmy just played some chords and it just went," Sam Smith said.

Jimmy Napes continued the story from there, describing, "After we finished writing, we literally went next door to RAK Studio 1 and recorded it and that was the first take."

Sam Smith has also released behind-the-scenes footage of him singing 'Writing's On The Wall' for the first time.

“The voice is the voice of the demo. The first recording I ever did for the song," noted the British singer, adding: "Such a special memory."

Because Sam Smith used the first recording, the piano played by Jimmy Napes in the background can actually be heard if the voice is isolated from the track.

Sam Smith isn't the only artist paying homage to the legacy of James Bond.

Adele, who performed the song 'Skyfall' for the 2012 James Bond film of the same name, celebrated the ten-year anniversary of the single's release on October 5 via her group's 'Adele Access' account.

"Hold your breath and count to ten," the account wrote in reference to the opening lyrics to "Skyfall."

Billie Eilish, who is the youngest artist to perform a song for the James Bond films, opened up about her title song for the recent film 'No Time To Die' in his new documentary 'The Sound of 007' Amazon Prime Video.

The 20-year-old singer admitted she got chills when she heard her song play during the more "emotional points" at the film's premiere.

It is worth noting that Adele, Sam Smith and Billie Eilish are the only three artists in history to have won an Academy Award for their songs for James Bond films.
