Rihanna on her new album: "It would be ridiculous if it didn't come out this year"

"I just want to have fun," RIhanna comments on her intentions for her new album.

Rihanna poses for the new issue of British Vogue with her nine-month-old son and partner A$AP Rocky and talks about her plans for her next album.

Although the magazine seemed coy when asked about her long-awaited – seven years to be exact – ninth album, the follow-up to 2016's Anti, Rihanna gave more answers than she's ever given in the years leading up to her recent her Super Bowl halftime performance.

"I want it to be this year," she said, referring to the album's release date.

“I mean, honestly, it would be ridiculous if it didn't happen this year. But I just want to have fun. I just want to make music and make videos,” he continued.

British Vogue also reports that Rihanna hasn't stopped recording music in recent years, although she admits that the unreleased songs she has in her vault feature sounds and styles she's left behind.

“It's almost like trying to dress the way you used to dress. You say: “No, no. I would never wear these again." Your taste changes, your vibe changes,” he explained.

Rihanna also noted that Anti is "really my most outstanding album", which was easy for her to realize in hindsight, despite feeling distant from it at the time.

“It always felt like the most cohesive album I've ever made. When you break it down and realize that this album goes from “Work” to “Kiss It Better” to “Needed Me” to “Love on the Brain” to “Sex With Me” to “Desperado”… And somehow it all fits and not even for a second did he have a problem," he said.

Speaking about the pressure of releasing a new album, Rihanna expressed her doubts.

"If it's not better than ('Anti'), then it's not even worth it... But that's not the right way to approach music, because music is an outlet and a space to create, and you can create anything ", he said.

“It doesn't even have to be on a scale. It just has to be something that looks nice. It might just be a song I like. It could literally be that simple," he noted.
