Polo G: "Death and depression made me turn to music"

Polo G, who became a father at the age of 20, typically states that "he wants to live as long and as well as he can with his family".

Asked by the Guardian if music could be an escape route, Polo G replied that it could be, but stressed: "Everything is inside you. It's up to us if we continue like this. "

The rapper was hospitalized on August 12, 2019 due to a drug overdose at a party.

He states that he overcame it "understanding that it is not necessary for me to have a good time, or to feel good about myself or to escape from reality".

"You discover your own mechanisms for how to deal with situations, especially the difficult ones, and you find the best ones," he says.

Polo G: Top stars on new Hall of Fame album
His lyrics are distinguished by his "lively and explicit narrative" and many refer to racism, mental health and police violence.

Polo G says characteristically: "Obviously money can open doors, but how much does it really help young blacks in the US who feel trapped in the system? Money can not change how you feel. If you were sad before, you will be sad now. "It's just a relief from the stress of paying or caring for someone."

The real relief comes from satisfying simpler needs, such as feeling safe, "being able to go out without looking back," the rapper explains, according to APE-MPE.

"There is a child somewhere in Chicago, probably eight years old, who saw someone being killed in broad daylight. "There are a lot of things going on in the city that are not being shown on TV, and they are not talking about them."

Polo G released his third album a few days ago, entitled "Hall of Fame", which just debuted at No. 1 of the American Billboard 200.
