Olivia Rodrigo "lost her mind" at Patti Smith's surprise

"I love her she's amazing."

Olivia Rodrigo's music has been described as pop-punk, but the young singer admits she "lost her mind" when she suddenly came face-to-face with the original godmother of punk.

In the new episode of Vogue's '73 Questions With' video series, Olivia Rodrigo explained that she recorded her upcoming sophomore album, 'Guts', at New York's legendary Electric Lady Studios.

While recording, she noticed a photo of the famous godmother of punk Patti Smith in the hallway and told the studio owner that she was a big fan of the great singer, songwriter and poet.

"Lo and behold, the next day, I was playing the piano and there's a knock on my (studio) door and Patti Smith is there," Olivia Rodrigo revealed.

"And he said, 'Hi, Olivia, nice to meet you! I wanted to come and say hello." And I lost my mind!” he recalled.

Patti Smith then presented Olivia Rodrigo with a book of her poems, and the 20-year-old pop star proudly showed the copy to the camera.

"He wrote on the inside: 'To Olivia, may all your days be filled with inspiration.' I love her. She's amazing," described Olivia Rodrigo.

Patti Smith is one of the artists most associated with Electric Lady Studios, which was founded by guitar legend Jimi Hendrix in 1970, shortly before his death at the age of 27 that same year.

The 76-year-old singer attended the opening party of the studios and also recorded there in 1975 her acclaimed debut album 'Horses', with which she pioneered the New York punk rock scene.

Elsewhere in the video, Olivia Rodrigo expressed her love for even more past and present artists.

Olivia Rodrigo revealed that the album she listens to non-stop is Simon & Garfunkel's 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' from 1970, while the album she has listened to the most in her life is the White Stripes' 'Elephant' released in 2003, the year he was born.
