Moby meets Gregory Porter and Amythyst Kiah in the renewed "Natural Blues"

This new version of "Natural Blues" takes off with a renewed energy.
Moby presents a new version of the song "Natural Blues" starring Gregory Porter and Amythyst Kiah.

This is the third song from Moby's upcoming album "Reprise", which will be released by Deutsche Grammophon / Universal Music on May 28 and will feature adaptations of the most classic and iconic songs on his personal discography.

"Natural Blues" was originally included on the groundbreaking "Play" album by American DJ, singer, songwriter and musician released in 1999.

True to the original track but extremely modern, this new version takes off with a renewed energy, while the expressive performances of Gregory Porter and Amythyst Kiah meet the Budapest Art Orchestra to compose a dynamic and moving result.

The music video for "Natural Blues" includes footage from the upcoming documentary "Moby Doc", which was created in collaboration with director Rob Bralver.

Moby appears on the slope of a mountain in the desert, images that combine shots of Gregory Porter and Amythyst Kiah singing.

Porter recently filmed his part for the video under safe conditions for COVID at Moby's home, with the two artists meeting for the first time face to face since the beginning of the pandemic.

Moby
Moby explains: "I've had songs that are full of despair and some are festive, but more often than not I guess my music lives in a bittersweet interlude."

"The performances of Gregory Porter and Amythyst Kiah bring a new sense of longing to the song that includes both light and dark shades. "Their careful interpretations bring deep minor differences to the piece that only they could offer in a unique way", he continues.

Gregory Porter comments: "When I first heard Moby's 'Natural Blues', I felt a direct connection to the song. It looked very modern, but at the same time very old. The different influences of this music are coming to the surface again in this new version, strengthening the soul, the spirit and the voice of another era. It is my pleasure to offer my voice to this classic melody, which has been adapted and renewed ".

Amythyst Kiah says: "It was an honor to be asked to sing in this incredible remix of 'Natural Blues'. I remember listening to the song as a child, but as soon as I started studying older music at university, I realized that I was listening to the voice of Vera Hall, which was taken from the collection of (ethnomusicologist) Lomax ".

"I have been playing 'Natural Blues' for years and it is the example I give when I talk to people about the importance of outdoor recordings and the places where they take us musically. It's more than I would expect to get back to the beginning this way. "It's incredible to hear my voice with Gregory Porter and I'm glad to share this song with such an incredible singer."

In addition to "Natural Blues", forerunners of "Reprise" are "Porcelain" starring Jim James (My Morning Jacket) and "The Lonely Night" starring legendary artists Kris Kristofferson and Mark Lanegan.
