The collection accompanies the documentary "Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song".
The first album with highlights from the career of lyricist, musician, poet, writer and cinematographer Leonard Cohen is released.
The anthology "Leonard Cohen: Hallelujah and Songs from His Albums" includes 17 songs from Leonard Cohen's successful music career, as well as the unreleased and memorable live recording of "Hallelujah" since his appearance at the Glastonbury Music Festival in 2008.
The album is available digitally now and will be released on CD and on a limited edition blue vinyl this winter.
The collection is part of the new documentary "Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song", which will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival this month, and has already been officially screened at the 2021 Venice Film Festival and the Festival. Telluride 2021.
The film examines Leonard Cohen as a songwriter - singer in the light of the timeless anthem "Hallelujah".
"Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song" was directed by Daniel Geller and Dayna Goldfine.
Leonard Cohen gave his consent for the creation of the documentary shortly before celebrating his 80th birthday in 2014.
"Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen, A Journey, A Song" includes unpublished personal material from the Cohen Family Trust archives, such as the emblematic personal diaries of artists, notebooks, photographs, live performances, and extremely rare material from recordings and interviews.
The documentary also tells the story of Leonard Cohen's personal friends, such as Adrienne Clarkson and Larry "Ratso" Sloman, as well as singers who inspired "Hallelujah", such as Judy Collins, Brandi Carlile and Rufus Wainwright.
The film is based on the book "The Holy of the Broken: Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley & the Unlikely Ascent of Hallelujah" by American journalist Alan Light which was released in 2012. Watch the trailer here.
Leonard Cohen died on November 7, 2016 at the age of 82.
