Katy Perry explains why "When I'm Gone" will help people "celebrate revenge"

Katy Perry aspires "When I'm Gone" to become the anthem of revenge for the moments that deprived us of the pandemic.
Katy Perry recently collaborated with Alesso on the song "When I'm Gone" and revealed why the moment was perfect for them to release their looming summer success.

"We both knew we wanted to release a great dance song and this was the right time," the pop singer said in a new interview with People.

"We had the same goals in mind as we just wanted to create an amazing atmosphere and we wanted to create this sexy, longing, club atmosphere for the world," he continued.

"It was the right time, just before I started my appearances (in Las Vegas), and normalcy was coming back and everyone wanted to celebrate revenge," he said, referring to the moments when the pandemic deprived people.

This feeling was transferred to the music video of the song. Katy Perry dedicated herself to creating a perfect result - she even danced in the water at three in the morning, about which she said: "It was not hot".

"We wanted the music video to really match the song," he said, adding that he went into "every little detail" to make it happen.

"I get very involved in everything, to the point where I help style the dancers before they get on the set, and I just talk very openly about every little detail," he explained.

Alesso added: "We wanted to do something that was nice and sexy, that matched the song and was very visually pleasing, and it just came out so great."

Katy Perry described her collaboration with the Swedish DJ as "effortless, easy and cool", because "they had the same goals" during the creation of the song.

"Alesso has no selfishness, he has the right amount of selfishness to be a DJ," he commented.

"Confidence, perhaps. But it is wonderful, because selfishness really prevents good work from being done. "He was happy to take any notes and when we were together in the studio, he was so open," he continued.

For his part, Alesso said working with Katy Perry was "such a terrific experience."
