Glass Animals' "Heat Waves" is now the longest-running song on the Billboard Hot 100 in the chart's 64-year history.
The hit completed 91 weeks on the Hot 100 and broke the record set by The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights," which spent 90 weeks on the chart in 2019-21.
"Blinding Lights" held the record for the longest-running song on the Hot 100 as of August 2021, when it surpassed Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive." In turn, "Radioactive" completed 87 weeks on the chart and held the record since 2014, when it surpassed Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours" (76 weeks, 2008-09).
During its run on the Billboard Hot 100, "Heat Waves" also set the record for the longest No. 1 song, peaking in its 59th week on the chart in March .
In total, Glass Animals' "Heat Waves" dominated for five weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
"Wow, all I can say is wow," Glass Animals frontman Dave Bayley told Billboard of the band's achievement.
“Many of you know that when I wrote this song I was writing about missing someone I loved very much. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would bring so much love and connection to the whole world. You all did this," he stressed.
"Thank you to everyone who helped this song reach so many people. You know who you are. Thank you," he added.
Glass Animals' "Heat Waves" stayed in the Hot 100's Top 10 for 37 weeks, the fifth-best of all time behind "Blinding Lights" (57 weeks), The Kid LAROI's "Stay" and Justin Bieber (44), Dua Lipa's 'Levitating' (41) and Post Malone's 'Circles' (39).
It also spent 57 weeks in the Hot 100's Top 20, tying "Stay" for fourth-best, behind "Blinding Lights" (80 weeks), "Levitating" (62) and "Circles" (60).
Also, "Heat Waves" has completed 76 weeks in the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, marking the second-longest run behind "Blinding Lights" (86).
The Glass Animals hit has reached No. 1 on 12 different US Billboard charts.
"Heat Waves" topped the Hot 100, Hot Rock & Alternative Songs, Hot Rock Songs, Hot Alternative Songs, Radio Songs, Alternative Airplay, Pop Airplay, Adult Pop Airplay, Alternative Streaming Songs, Alternative Digital Song Sales, Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. US charts.
It's also worth mentioning that Glass Animals' "Heat Waves" has been absent from the Billboard Hot 100 for only two weeks since its first appearance on the chart. The song entered the Hot 100 at No. 100 on January 16, 2021 and fell off the chart for two weeks, before reappearing at No. 91 on February 6, 2021.
