Ed Sheeran: The new album "Equals" debuts at No. 1 of the Billboard 200 and the United Kingdom

Ed Sheeran's new album "=" (Equals) makes a successful debut at No. 1 of both the United Kingdom and the United States.

This is Ed Sheeran's fifth consecutive album to top UK sales after "+" (Plus) in 2011, "×" (Multiply) in 2014, "÷" (Divide) in 2017 and "No .6 Collaborations Project »in 2019.

The 30-year-old singer and songwriter's new record recorded 139,000 sales in the UK market in the first week of its release, a number that exceeds the sales of the other albums in the Top 30 in the United Kingdom.

"Equals" not only had the best-selling week for an album this year in the UK, but is also the best-selling week since Ed Sheeran's latest album, "÷" (Divide) released in 2017.

Ed Sheeran said in a statement to the Official Charts Company of the United Kingdom: "Thank you very much for making 'Equals' No. 1 album in the UK this week. I do not know what else to say, you are wonderful. Thank you very much for listening to all of you, I hope you enjoy it and I hope to see you on the tour next year ".

According to MRC Data, "Equals" recorded equivalent sales of 118,000 albums in the US in the first week of its release. More than half of that amount came from album sales.

Of the total number, album sales (physical and digital) amount to 68,000. The 61.69 million on-demand streams of "Equals" songs correspond to sales equivalent to 46,500 albums, while 3,500 were the sales of individual songs on the album.

It is worth noting that "Equals" is the fourth consecutive album of Ed Sheeran that dominates at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. At the top of the chart have also climbed the albums "Plus" in 2011, "Multiply" in 2014, "Divide" in 2017 and "No.6 Collaborations Project" in 2019.
