Dolly Parton and Kelly Clarkson bring '9 to 5' to today

Ahead of the upcoming documentary 'Still Working 9 to 5' about the legendary comedy film '9 to 5' and its cultural impact, Dolly Parton teamed up with Kelly Clarkson to record a brand new version of her classic '9 to 5' song. in duet.

The revamped version of Dolly Parton's hit song from 1980 was created with Shane McAnally, Sasha Sloan and King Henry.

Dolly Parton and Kelly Clarkson turn the working-class country anthem into a downtempo vocoder pop ballad, a fitting soundtrack to the ongoing movement for women's equality in the workplace.

“Nobody sings like Kelly Clarkson. It makes any song come alive,” Dolly Parton said. "I love her voice on '9 to 5' and I'm so proud that I got to sing with her. I am equally proud of Shane McAnally's wonderful orchestration and production,” she added.

Kelly Clarkson also stated her huge admiration for Dolly Parton.

"I am so honored that Dolly asked me to cover this iconic song, '9 to 5' with her!" She is very talented, an inspiration to all women and one of the sweetest people you will ever meet!” she said.

“I hope you like what we did, but even if you don't, remember that I managed to sing a duet with the magical Dolly Parton and now I have bragging rights until the end of time!” he continued.

Shane McAnally commented on his collaboration with the two singers: “It's the craziest dream scenario of mine to work with two of the greatest singers in the world on one of the greatest songs of all time. I am so grateful to be a part of Dolly and Kelly's first recording session together. I have a feeling it won't be the last."

"9 to 5" was originally released in 1980 along with the comedy film of the same name starring Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.

The song reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned Parton an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song, as well as four nominations and two Grammy Awards: Best Country Song and Best Country Performance by a Female.

Dolly Parton and Kelly Clarkson's duet will be featured in the documentary 'Still Working 9 to 5,' premiering on September 16, featuring the stars of the original film, as well as Rita Moreno from the TV series '9 to 5 ” and Allison Janney from its theatrical adaptation, will reunite to discuss the film and its feminist themes.
