Doja Cat will be the presenter of the MTV Video Music Awards 2021

This is the first time in the history of the MTV VMAs that the host is also nominated for the Video of the Year award.
Doja Cat will host the MTV Video Music Awards 2021, which will take place on September 12.

The 25-year-old singer and rapper is going to write history at the VMAs. Doja Cat is vying for five awards at this year's event, including the Video of the Year award for its collaboration with SZA on "Kiss Me More". This is the first time in the history of the MTV Video Music Awards that the presenter of the award ceremony is nominated for the top prize of the event.

Miley Cyrus, the 2015 awards host, and Katy Perry, the 2017 hostess, had previously won the Video of the Year award (for "Wrecking Ball" and "Firework" respectively), but were not nominated in this category during the years presented by the MTV Video Music Awards.

Doja Cat is the fifth host of the MTV Video Music Awards to win the No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, after Bette Midler, who co-hosted the first MTV VMAs in 1984, Sean "Diddy" Combs (2005), Miley Cyrus (2015) and Katy Perry (2017).

Jamie Foxx, who hosted the show in 2001, then topped the Hot 100 as a participating artist on Twista's "Slow Jamz," which also featured Kanye West, and West's "Gold Digger."

Doja Cat is the third woman of color to present or co-present the MTV Video Music Awards. "Downtown" Julie Brown, one of MTV's first DJs, co-presented the awards at 1986-87. Singer and actress Keke Palmer was the host of last year's awards ceremony.

This is also the third consecutive year that the MTV Video Music Awards will be hosted, as in recent years it has become common for many music awards events to take place without a presenter.

Doja Cat performed a mash-up of "Say So" and "Like That" at last year's MTV VMAs and won her first prize in the Best New Artist category.

This year she is nominated for five awards: For Artist of the Year, Video of the Year and Best Collaboration for "Kiss Me More" with SZA and for Best Artistic Direction and Best Visual Effects for "Best Friend", success of the Saweetie in which it participates.

Doja Cat will not only perform on the night of the MTV Video Music Awards, which will take place at the "Barclays Center" in Brooklyn, New York on Sunday, September 12, but will also sing live on the awards stage.

Olivia Rodrigo, Lil Nas X, Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello, Lorde, Foo Fighters, Twenty One Pilots, Kacey Musgraves, Machine Gun Kelly and Chlöe will also appear at the awards ceremony.
