Céline Dion has shared a heartfelt tribute to her “cherished mentor” Quincy Jones, following the legendary producer and composer’s passing at age 91 at his Los Angeles home on Sunday.
On Instagram, Céline posted two photos of herself with Quincy, along with a touching message honoring the music icon. “I am heartbroken to learn of the passing of my friend, the one and only musical genius, Quincy Jones,” she wrote. “Quincy touched my world as both a cherished mentor and as someone I deeply admired for his influence across nearly every form of American music.”
Céline described working with Quincy as a “dream come true.” The Canadian singer had the opportunity to collaborate with him in 2006 on *I Knew I Loved You*, a song by Ennio Morricone. Reflecting on the experience, she shared, “In our sessions, his musical intuition was profound—he helped me capture ‘a little piece of heaven.’ Quincy always knew exactly what each song needed.”
In her tribute, Céline also highlighted Quincy’s dedication to the arts and philanthropy. In 2010, the two worked together on a remake of the 1985 charity single *We Are the World* to support Haiti earthquake relief efforts. “Beyond his kindness and countless accomplishments, I admired him for his philanthropy, benefiting the arts, global famine relief, and underprivileged youth,” Céline added. “His influence truly reaches every corner of the world.”
She concluded with one of Quincy’s memorable quotes: “Music is the soul of the universe. It connects us all on a level that words alone cannot reach.” Céline expressed her hope that his “wisdom and joy” would continue to inspire.
In response, Nicole Scherzinger commented, “Thank you so much for sharing this.”
Quincy Jones is survived by his seven children.
