Beyoncé and Selena Gomez's mothers helped prevent them from becoming divas

Beyoncé and Selena Gomez's mothers have shared how they prevented their famous daughters from developing diva-like tendencies.

Tina Knowles, mother to both music superstar Beyoncé and singer Solange, along with Mandy Teefey, mother of newly-minted billionaire Selena Gomez, recently opened up about their parenting experiences during a Glamour magazine cover shoot. They were joined by the mothers of singer Billie Eilish and NFL star Travis Kelce to discuss their unique challenges in raising children in the spotlight.

Knowles and Teefey recounted moments when they noticed their daughters could be at risk of becoming entitled. They stepped in to keep them grounded.

Knowles recalled saying, "We had moments where I told them, 'You can carry your own suitcases. Look people in the eye, say hello, and don't turn into a diva. That won't work here.' It's important to teach them that, because everyone tries to do everything for them and flatter them. I would remind them, 'No, you're not helpless.'"

Teefey shared a similar story about Gomez: "She was getting out of a trailer, and someone was holding an umbrella for her, bringing her food. I stepped in and said, 'She can hold her own umbrella. She needs to learn to pump her own gas and be a regular person first.'"

These mothers Knowles, Teefey, alongside Billie Eilish's mom Maggie Baird and Travis Kelce's mom Donna were honored by Glamour in the annual Women of the Year issue.
